Every cyclist eventually asks: «Have I actually become stronger this year?» Comparing individual rides is tricky — terrain, weather, and mood vary too much. The only way to see the real picture is by comparing entire time periods.

In BikeNote, I’ve added a «Season Comparison» tab so you can compare your achievements across different years in a single click.

What Metrics Matter?

Many people judge progress solely by average speed, but that’s a trap. To see real growth in fitness, you need to look at a combination of factors:

  1. Total Elevation Gain: if you climbed 2,000 meters more this year on the same total distance, your endurance has improved significantly.
  2. Moving Time: how many hours did you spend in the saddle? Consistency and volume are often more important than peak speed.
  3. Number of Rides: this is the most honest metric. If you rode 40 times last year and 70 times this year, it means cycling has become a core part of your lifestyle, and your overall stamina has leveled up.

How Comparison Works in BikeNote

You don’t need to build charts in Excel. The app pulls data from your local database and displays two seasons side-by-side:

  • You get clear summary cards: «2025 vs 2026.»
  • All data — distance, time, elevation — is compared automatically.
  • Zero server requests — you get your report instantly the moment you switch the tab.

Why This Boosts Motivation

Mid-season, it often feels like you’re not making progress. But seeing that you rode 300 km more this June than last June brings that motivation back instantly. It’s objective feedback that doesn’t depend on «likes» from strangers on social media.

Available in the Pro Version

Deep analytics and historical data comparison are core features of the Pro version. I designed this for those who view their cycling journey as a long road and want to see every milestone along the way.

Your history is more than just files on a disk. It’s your asset, and BikeNote transforms it into clear, beautiful reports.
